Francis Xavier Long, Frank, was born on November 22, 1933 in Brooklyn, New York to Leo F. and Maria K. Long. He and his three brothers and sister were raised in Brooklyn, New York, during which time he attended Saint Teresa Boys School and Brooklyn Tech High School.
On November 20, 1956, Frank was inducted into the United States Army and served active duty for two years and continued on to serve in the Army Reserves until 1962.
On January 2, 1960, Frank married Virginia M. Farris at St. Michaels Catholic Church in Brooklyn, New York. Soon after they were married, the couple moved to Whittier, California. Frank and Virginia raised three children, Patricia, Robert and Peggy and were married for over 55 years.
Professionally, Frank began his 40 year career at Schrader Automotive in sales and then worked his way to regional manger. In addition to his family and his work, he had many interests. He loved playing golf and watching sports in general and in his younger years enjoyed sailing and fishing. Frank was a faithful parishioner at St. Brunos Catholic Church for his 55 years in Whittier, during which time he served as head usher for several years. He also was involved at the La Mirada Mens Golf Club and the Whittier Elks Lodge.
On September 18, 2016 at the age of 82, Frank went home to be with the Lord and be reunited with his loving wife Virginia. He is survived by his three children: Patti (Dale) Hayashi, Robert (Barbara) Long, Peggy (Alan) Cremers, his grandchildren: Kate, Daniel, Chris, Claire and Matthew, brother: Hal, sister-in-laws: Beverly, Josephine (Ben) Farris-Dehn and many nieces, nephews and friends.
A funeral mass will be held on Friday, September 23, 2016 at 10:30am at St. Brunos Catholic Church in Whittier, California followed by interment at Queen of Heaven Cemetery in Rowland Heights, California.
