Florence Elizabeth Erickson

Florence Elizabeth Erickson passed away on June 21st, 2021 in Whittier, California. She was 82 years old and had been suffering from Alzheimer's disease for about 8 years.
Florence was born on January 16th, 1939 at Dameron Hospital in Stockton, CA. This was the closest hospital to the family home in Tracy. Her parents were Edmond and Helen Stevenson. Florence was 7 years old when her only sibling, Edmond was born.
Growing up Florence was very involved with the Tracy Presbyterian Church. She also participated in the Rainbow girls in Tracy for many years. Florence played the piano and was involved in many activities at school.
In the summer of 1955, when Florence was 16, her father was transferred to Sunnyvale, CA. This meant leaving her lifelong friends in Tracy and spending her senior year of high school in a new town. This was very hard on Florence but she did eventually make new friends and enjoy her senior year at Fremont High School in Sunnyvale.
After she graduated from high school Florence spent a year working for the Sunnyvale Chamber of Commerce. Then she was off to Whitworth College in Spokane, Washington. Following her year at Whitworth College she returned to Sunnyvale and begin taking classes at San Jose State. It was there she met the love of her life, George Erickson.
Florence and George were married on April 5, 1959. A few months after their wedding they bought their first home in San Jose, CA. They had 3 children, and Florence dearly loved being a mom. 25 years after she became a mom she became a grandma, and she took many, many trips to visit her 6 grandsons.
Florence also worked in education in a variety of capacities. She taught at a nursery school, was an aide in a class for children with Down's syndrome, and ended up as a school secretary/college counselor at a private high school.
In 1996 George retired and he and Florence moved into a retirement community in Roseville, CA. In 2016, when Florence began needing quite a bit of care due to the Alzheimer's, she and George moved into a Senior Care Facility in southern California which was near their eldest daughter Barbara.
Florence is survived by her husband of 62 years, George; brother Edmond; children Barbara and Jim. She is predeceased by her youngest daughter Anne who passed away in December of 2020. She is also survived by her 6 grandsons Jeffrey, Dustin, Brandon, Daniel, Steven and Trey, and 3 great grandchildren Logan, Jaden and Elaina.
