Evelyn Evie Lois Moen passed into the loving arms of Jesus on Sunday, March 4, 2018 in Placentia, California at the age of 93.
Evie grew up in a loving family on the family orange ranch on Millergrove Dr. with her older brother Glenn, older sister Mildred and younger sister Polly. She also had a brother named Paul who died before she was born.
Evie attended El Ranchito Elementary in Pico Rivera until 7th grade, then to Los Nietos and on to Whittier High School, where she graduated in 1943. Evie took business classes in high school which prepared her for a job at 1st National Bank in uptown Whittier. She also took some banking night classes after graduating from high school. She was an Escrow secretary, secretary to the Vice President and a Collections teller. She worked there for 4 years.
Evie and Lenard Moen were neighbors both living on ranches in West Whittier and attending the same schools. Then after Lenard returned from WWII they became re-acquainted when he was invited to a Bible study of young people from First Brethren Church in uptown Whittier. Lenard took Evie home afterward and they dated thereafter until they were married on March 11, 1947. She died just a week short of their 71st anniversary.
Evies life was full and busy. She and Lenard had five children born in less than six years. Life centered around raising a family, their church and school activities. Evie also helped Lenard by doing the bookkeeping for many years for Moen Machine Works later Moen Industries. When their children were young, Evie and Lenard helped start a new church Community Brethren Church on Washington Blvd. where they attended for many years. Later they helped start another new church in LaMirada Creek Park Community Church. Evie was always involved in the nursery or childrens ministry in some way. She was involved in Bible studies and Bible Study Fellowship. In their later years they attended Whittier Area Community Church.
Evie loved gardening and flowers, especially her roses. Her home and her life were a reflection of Gods love. She shared her love with many and they in turn loved her. Evie and Lenard opened their home to family, friends and many missionaries who became like family to them. She loved her grandchildren and great grandchildren and they were so blessed to be able to call her Grandma or Great Grandma and to have her in their lives for so many years.
The day before her 86th birthday, Evie suffered her first stroke. Since then, Lenard has lovingly cared for his bride, and although she was unable to talk, she said it all with her eyes and her smile. She made a lasting impact on the lives of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Evie is survived by her loving husband, Lenard, her children Phyllis (Larry) Allen, Carl (Anita) Moen, Dale (Marghy) Moen, Janet (Bob) Clough, her Six Grandchildren and Fifteen Great Grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her son, Earl Moen.
A Memorial Service will be held, Saturday, March 17, 2018 at 1:30 P.M. at Plymouth Congregational Church, 12058 Beverly Blvd. Whittier, with a reception to follow.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Health Partnership, PO Box 1965, Whittier, CA 90609, a care ministry of Whittier Area Community Church who ministered to Evie over the years.
