Evelyn C. Back, loving wife, mother and retired elementary school teacher, passed away of non-COVID-19 related natural causes on February 17, 2021 at the age of 95. She passed peacefully while surrounded by family. Evy was born and raised in Portland, Oregon. Portland was also where she met and married to her loving husband Robert E. Back. In 1953, they moved to Southern California and raised two children in Whittier, CA. They retired to Morningside of Fullerton in 1999.
Evelyn earned a Bachelor's degree in Psychology from Willamette University in Salem, Oregon where she enjoyed her Delta Gamma sisters. Later, she earned a Teaching Credential from Fullerton State University and Master of Arts in Education from Azusa Pacific University. She loved her years spent teaching children at Leal Elementary and Cerritos Elementary schools in Cerritos, CA from 1972 to 1990.
Most of Evy's interests revolved around family and the First United Methodist Church Whittier where she was a long-time member. She was an active member of the M & M-Challengers class and sang in the Chancel Choir for 50 years. She was a member and past-president of the United Methodist Women. She had many hobbies of which singing and traveling were standouts. She enjoyed family and friends and was noted for her big smile and easy laugh.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her mother Jera-Margaret Chapman, father Alexander K. Chapman, step-brother Al Chapman, sister Lena Nuss and step-sister Edna Marty. She is survived by her son, Paul Back, daughter-in-law Laurie, both of Whittier and daughter Nancy Back of San Diego, CA.
