Eugene C. Hunt

Eugene Coral Hunt, best known from Whittier CA, born in Oklahoma City Oklahoma, had a spell in Wichita Kansas, passed away peacefully at home in Garden Grove, California, on May 14, 2015 at the ready age of 80. Gene (Poppy) Hunt was born on October 10, 1934, married Phyllis May Mangum at age 22 and lived life in a way that made you feel better about yours - left you full, left you glad to have been part of his.

Gene served in the Navy (1951-1955) and settled in Whittier, CA in 1960 where he and Phyllis raised three children. His passion of wood working left treasures behind to those closest to him: a daily memory of his kindness, his will to want the best for you, and his gentle, caring heart. Undeniably, his gift of humor to make you laugh touched us all the most.

Gene was preceded in death by the love of his life Phyllis Hunt; parents Alenne and Fred Hunt; mother in-law Phyllis Mangum; Aunt Mary; brother Victor Hunt; half-brothers Harland and Harvey; and close friend Paul Bryans. Poppy, as Gene was affectionately called by his family, is survived by his sister Marilyn (Sue) Keller; brother Buddy Hunt; son Mitchell Hunt; devoted daughters Tami McKenna and Jill Dupleich; daughter-in law Sandra Hunt-von Arb; sons-in law David McKenna and Willie Dupleich; grandsons Tyler Hunt, Jacob McKenna and Ryan Dupleich; granddaughters Sara McKenna, Allyssa Mueller, and Alex Dupleich; Aunt Evelyn Shaw; sisters-in law Opal Hunt, sister-in law Barbra Price and her husband Jack, brother-in law Richard Mangum and wife Susan, sister-in law Chris Lammers and husband Fred, Pauls wife Mimi Bryans and many cousins, nieces, nephews that he loved very much.

Graveside services will be held on Friday May 29, 2015 at Resurrection Catholic Cemetery in Montebello, CA at 11:30am. Arrangements by White Emerson Mortuary, Whittier.
