Ernest William Larocco was born on Mother's Day, Sunday, May 11, 1930, at home in Chicago, Illinois.A tree in the back yard of his parents home was called a 'snow ball tree' due to its 3' to 4' white, ball shaped flowers. It normally bloomed in June, but it was in full bloom on the day of Ernest's birth. His mother was proud of both gifts she received, Ernest and the flowers.His father had other expectations as he wanted a daughter and was handed a boy. The first thing he told his wife was, 'this is 'Duke' -no count!' The name 'Duke' has stuck to Ernest from family members ever since.Ernest had a younger brother who was born a year and a half later. He and his brother fought and argued over the use of toys, but later played well together in the sports of baseball, football and hockey.Following graduation from Leyden High School in Franklin Park, Illinois, 'Duke' was awarded a four year scholarship for chemistry at Carthage College. But with the Korean War, he chose to enlist in the United States Navy. After boot camp he was selected to be a 'Sea Bee (construction Battalion) and was sent to Korea.He enjoyed his work and visited many places while serving in the Navy.One Saturday night his buddy called him from Manilla and asked him to be a chaperone for him and his girlfriend. Ernest had nothing else to do, so he took the offer. The blind date was with his buddy's girlfriend's cousin, Diana.Ernest and Diana enjoyed visiting many places and took in World War II memorials.Ernest remained at Sangley Point and courted Diana for two more years before proposing marriage to her. She accepted, as well as her mother and family. They were married in Manila on October 25, 1953. After spending many hours in the U.S. Embassy getting immigration papers for Diana, she became a happy citizen in 1958.Ernest worked for the city of La Habra for 16 years. He then worked for the city of Anaheim for 12 years as a Fleet Maintenance Foreman, and then 4 years in Fleet Management. Ernest and Diana have been married for 52 years, and have raised a fine family. They have traveled extensively throughout the U.S. and Canada.The good Lord has seen through a very good lifetime together.Ernest is survived by his wife, Diana; son, Michael, and daughters, Elizabeth, Maria and Victoria.
