Ernest Newman

Ernest Richard Newman was born April 21, 1923, in Hollywood, California, to Albert Richard and Alice Josephine (Edgecombe) Newman. He passed away October 5, 2018, in Yorba Linda, California, at the age of 95.

Ernie, as he was known, grew up in mostly Los Angeles, California. During one year of his childhood, however, he lived in Texas. It was there that he developed a love for horseback riding. Ernie later returned to LA and graduated from John Marshall High School. He went on to Business College prior to being called to serve his country in the US Army. He was sent to Europe during World War II and served during the Korean Conflict from 1950-1951.

On February 2, 1951, Ernie married the love of his life, Patricia Mae Londelious, in Hollywood, California. They settled in Whittier, California where they bought their first home. Ernie and Pat were blessed to adopt two children, Gary and Lori, and they enjoyed many years in Whittier. In their later years, they moved to the La Mirada Landmark Community in La Mirada, California.

Professionally, Ernie worked as an Administrative Assistant for the US Marshall Service for 35 years. Following his retirement, he stayed busy working part-time at Disneyland and the YMCA in Whittier.

Ernie greatly enjoyed reading and watching old movies from the 1930s and 1940s. He was also a big fan of Big Band music, especially Frank Sinatra. His favorite pastime, however, was to talk about his world travels with Pat, and his service in WWII. He attended a military class in La Mirada for many years and enjoyed their weekly meetings.

Ernest is survived by his children, Gary (Joyce) Newman and Lorie (Frank) Gonzalez; his sister, Ann Taylor; 6 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his dear wife, Patricia, in 2015.

Viewing will take place from 9-10am with a Service to follow at 10am on Monday, October 15, 2018, at White Emerson Mortuary, 13304 Philadelphia St., Whittier, California. Interment will follow at Riverside National Cemetery, Riverside, California.
