Emma Louise Murray Dunn was born November 9, 1919 in Los Angeles, California and passed away on October 22, 2014 in Yorba Linda, California. Louise lived in Whittier from 1948 until 2004 when she moved to Brea. Her familys first home in Whittier was on Pickering Avenue near Wardman. The family then lived on Gretna in West Whittier. In 1956, Louises family lived on the corner of Christine and La Entrada in East Whittier and in 1973, she and her husband Earl moved to Bright Ave. in the Historic Uptown area.
Louise is the daughter of Oneita Margaret Shepherd and Clarence Preston Murray. She lived in Los Angeles with her mother and brother, Norman, thru her freshman year of high school. She fondly remembers riding the Red Car from her home near Exposition Park to visit her favorite Aunt Minnie in Boyle Heights.
She and her mother moved to Bellflower after her freshman year of high school where she then attended Excelsior High School and took business courses. During high school, she met her future husband, Earl James Dunn, a star football player. Louise was active in girls sports and served as ASB Secretary.
Upon graduation from High School, she went to work in the business office of Sears Roebuck & Company on Soto Street in Los Angeles. On June 6, 1941, Louise and Earl were married in Bellflower, California. They were later sealed for time and eternity in the Los Angeles Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
After their marriage, Louise and Earl continued to work full time until that fateful day of December 7, 1941. While driving to visit their parents on that Sunday, they heard the devastating news on the car radio that the Japanese had bombed Pearl Harbor. Like so many of the Greatest Generation, this news would change their lives forever. The next day Earl enlisted in the Marine Corp and Louise resigned from Sears to go to work in the aircraft industry to support the war effort. Because of her business background, she worked in the office from midnight until 8 a.m. issuing social security cards to new employees.
Their first child, Catherine Louise was born before Earl shipped out to the South Pacific, however he did not see his second daughter Mary Anne until he returned home from Iwo Jima when she was 14 months old.
After the war, Louise and her family moved to Whittier, where Earls family had lived since 1920. Their third child, Daniel Warren was born and Louise was blessed to be a full time mother at home with her children. The family had joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints where Louise volunteered her services in many capacities over the years. She also served as a Girl Scout and Cub Scout Leader and supported her children in their many activities.
Louise was a devoted mother who didnt return to the workforce until her children were in college. She resumed secretarial work until Earls retirement from the Los Angeles County Fire Department in 1973.
At this point in their lives, Louise and Earl traveled across the United States in their motor home enjoying the country they loved so much. Louise always enjoyed family history, sewing, quilting, vegetable gardening, fishing and spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Louise is survived by her children, Catherine Louise Dunn Warner (Dr. David), Mary Anne Dunn Grohs, (Monte) and Daniel Warren Dunn (Patricia Maycock), grandchildren, great grandchildren, nephews and nieces.
