Emily 'Sleepy' Tirado Briones Rangel was born March 22, 1937 in Compton, California to Benjamin and Maria (Flores) Tirado. She passed away February 1, 2012 in La Mirada, California. In 1957, Emily married Richard Briones in Whittier, California. They made their home in Whittier where they raised their eight children: Yolanda, Estella, Richard, Freddie, Raymond, Ana, Cynthia, and Al.Emily worked for Nabisco for approximately 20 years. She worked as a lead operator for many of those years. 'Sleepy', as she was affectionately known, loved her family first and foremost. She was a wonderful mother, a faithful friend and a loving and caring grandmother. She simply could not say 'no'. If someone needed help, you could always count on Emily. Emily loved to babysit her grandchildren, and spend time with family and friends. Other hobbies included gambling at the casino, shooting pool at the VFW, watching WWE professional wrestling, and cooking. She made incredible chile verde!A viewing and Rosary will begin at 9:30 am on Monday, February 6, 2012 at St. Gregory the Great Church, St. Gregory the Great Church, 13935 Telegraph Road, Whittier, CA 90604. Mass will be celebrated immediately following at 10:00 am, and interment will take place at Resurrection Cemetery. Those attending are invited to a reception after the service at the Leland A. Cupp American Legion Post #341, 4909 S. Durfee Ave., Pico Rivera, California.'Don't say 'Goodbye'...it's 'See you later''.
