Elvira Luque

Elvira Luque was born March 8, 1927, in Los Angeles, California, to Mariano and Manuela (Gomez) Escudero. She passed away June 20, 2015, in Torrance, California, at the age of 88.



Elvira grew up and went to school in Los Angeles. Shortly after high school, on July 21, 1945, she married her high school sweetheart, Arthur Luque, in Yuma, Arizona. They made their home in LA County, eventually settling in La Mirada, California.



Following Arts untimely death in 1968, Elvira worked hard to support herself and her young children. She was self-employed as a house-keeper, and she was able to provide friendly companionship to many of her elderly clients. She truly cared for them and enjoyed her associations with them.



A devoted Catholic, Elvira was associated with the Guadalupana organization for nearly 40 years. She was a parishioner of St. Paul of the Cross Church in La Mirada, and she freely gave countless hours of service to the Church.



Elvira loved gardening and cooking. No one ever went hungry at Elviras house. She always had fresh, homemade meals for whoever was around. Her food was amazing, and her unwritten recipes will remain as a sweet memory for her family. Elvira will also be remembered for her beautiful and engaging smile and her sense of humor. She leaves a legacy of selfless service, always sacrificing herself for others. She loved her children and grandchildren, and they adored her. She was like a second mother to many, and she will be greatly missed.



Survivors include her children, Laura Reid, Alice (David) Huff, Marylou Contreras, Arthur Luque, Albert Luque, Daniel (Cynthia) Luque, Christine (Robert) Rico, and Ronald (Jacqueline) Luque.



Viewing will be held from 5-7pm on Thursday, June 25, 2015, and a vigil service will immediately follow at 7pm, at White Emerson Mortuary, 13304 E. Philadelphia St., Whittier, California. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10am on Saturday, June 27, 2015, at St. Paul of the Cross Church, 14020 Foster Road, La Mirada, California. Interment will immediately follow at All Souls Cemetery in Long Beach, California.
