Elizabeth Carolyn Noland was born October 2, 1918, in Duluth, Minnesota, to Richard Thomas Bennett Sr. and Carrie May (Hammond) Bennett. She passed away on Monday, September 9, 2013, in Wildomar, California.
Betty, as she was known, spent her early years in Minnesota, moving with her family to Los Angeles, California, at the age of 12. A very bright young lady, Betty graduated as Valedictorian from Polytechnic High School in Los Angeles. She later went on to complete a few years of Junior college and graduated from Sawyer Business College.
While working as a secretary for Continental Can Company in Los Angeles, Betty met and fell in love with Joseph Theodore Noland, Jr., a co-worker employed as an engineer. They were married in Los Angeles, California, on April 17, 1943. They initially made their home in Los Angeles, but moved to Whittier, California in 1947 where they raised their two sons, Lance and Knute.
Betty was an example of a true giver who spent her life in the service of others. To her family, she was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and daughter. Betty was able to stay at home with her boys, and she was very involved in the PTA and the Cub Scouts on their behalf. She was always there to support them. Her tender compassion was also demonstrated towards both her mother and her mother-in-law as she cared for them in their later years.
Outside of the home, Betty volunteered countless hours, in many different capacities, to Granada Heights Friends Church where she and Joe were charter members. In the community, Betty was constantly going about doing good for others. If she saw a need, she filled it. She was also an active precinct worker for decades.
Betty loved her family very much, and they loved her. They will remember her most for her giving heart. She was a people-person that enriched the lives of those she made contact with. She is also admired for her faith in God, as she loved God first and foremost. She is the smartest and Godliest woman Ive ever known, her daughter-in-law commented.
Betty is survived by her sons, Lance and Knute (Kim) Noland, and two granddaughters, Kristin and Kaylee Noland.
Private interment will take place at Rose Hills Memorial Park in Whittier, California. A Memorial Service will be held at Granada Heights Friends Church in La Mirada, California on Saturday, November 9, 2013 at 11:00 A.M. Lunch will be provided at the Church immediately following the service.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Betty to the Granada Womens Missionary Fellowship in care of Granada Heights Friends Church, 11818 La Mirada Blvd., La Mirada, CA 90638. Please make checks payable to Granada Heights Friends Church.
