Elizabeth Betty Taylor Lindsay Balandis was born on May 2, 1928 to William and Helen (Kerr) Lindsay in Brooklyn, New York. She grew up in Brooklyn, New York and attended Fort Hamilton High School, a business high school. At age 15, Betty began working at Home Insurance Company in Manhattan, New York.
On January 26, 1952 Betty married Andrew Frank Balandis at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church in Brooklyn, New York. After they were married, Betty and Andrew moved to Alhambra, California and later settled in Whittier, California which became their permanent home. The couple had three sons, Drew, Steve and Mark and shared 65 years of marriage together.
While she was raising her boys, Betty worked at Beckman Instruments as a Secretary and then went on to work at the Whittier Public Library as a page for approximately 40 years. After her years of working at the library, Betty continued to volunteer there.
Outside of work and raising her family, Betty enjoyed reading and doing crossword puzzles.
