Doris Dey was born in May 1926, in Des Moines, Iowa to James Lester and Iris Belle (Cooper) Wade. She passed away Saturday, March 9, 2013, in Whittier, California at the age of 86.
Doris grew up and went to school in Iowa, moving to California at the age of 18. She met and fell in love with Howard Dey, and they were married in Los Angeles, California, on June 3, 1950. They spent their first year of marriage in Los Angeles and moved to Whittier in 1951. They raised their four children in Whittier and have lived there until the time of her death.
Community involvement was important to Doris, and she was certainly actively involved! She was a member of the Whittier Area Genealogical Society, Republican Womens Club of Whittier, Order of the Eastern Star, the Whittier Community Concert Association, and Daughters of the American Revolution. Additionally, she was and actively participated in her Thursday spiritual group.
In her younger years, Doris spent her free time sewing, knitting and doing embroidery. She also found a great deal of enjoyment doing genealogy and playing the piano. The wilderness was always calling to Doris, and she loved getting away to camp in the motor home.
Her family remembers Doris as a very kind, loving and generous person who had a beautiful and radiant smile. She was very positive and never spoke ill of others. Doris was also a spiritual individual.
Doris is survived by her husband, Howard; and daughters, Carol Louise (Douglas) Swift, Deborah Ann (John) Marziliano, and Nancy Lynn (Steve) Porten; as well as her brother, John Manford Wade; and 8 grandchildren.
