Dora Ribas Ferera

May 14, 1919 — May 2, 2014

Dora Ribas, 94, passed away peacefully at the age of 94 on May 2, 2014 at 11:00 p.m. in La Mirada, California. She was surrounded by many loving family members when she went to be with God for her eternal life.

Dora was born in Rochester, New York on May 14, 1919, after her parents had immigrated to America from Italy. She lived in Rochester for her childhood years. Dora met her husband Manuel Manny Ferera when he offered her a ride in his care one day, proclaiming that they were not strangers because he did in fact work with her father. She accepted that ride and it led to their marriage on October 7, 1939.

Dora moved with her husband and their two children, Virginia (Jean) and Robert (Bob), to California in 1954 to pursue their dream of living in the Golden State.

Dora earned her cosmetologist license and began working as a hairdresser in the 1960s, along with her daughter Jean. Together they owned the beauty salon.

Dora eventually decided that standing on her feet all day was not for her and left that industry for a career in Accounting and Business. She first worked in the private sector and then with the State of California at both the Youth Authority and Metropolitan State Hospital. After many years of dedicated service, she retired and enjoyed making ceramics, attending senior citizen club dances, and volunteering at a local hospital where she worked in their gift shop. Dora and her husband Manny were also long time members of The Sons of Italy.

Dora led a very independent and active life well into her 90s, spending many days shopping, dining, watching her favorite baseball team (the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim) on television, and enjoying her family.

Dora was preceded in death by her husband Manuel and 4 brothers, Neil, Mario, Chester and Louis. She is survived by her daughter Virginia Bridges (Leslie) and son Robert Ferera. Also by 6 grandchildren, Cynthia Bridges Kulp, Nancy Bridges Maldonado, Richard Bridges, R. Scott Ferera, Christopher Ferera and Matthew Fererea; 12 great-grandchildren and a sister Marion Hayes of Rochester, New York.

Her passing will leave a void in our hearts. We will cherish our memories of the wonderful years that we shared together and know that one day we will all be reunited again.

A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, May 8, 2014 at 10:30AM at White Emerson Mortuary, 13304 Philadelphia St., Whittier, CA. Interment will immediately follow the funeral at Rose Hills Memorial Park, in Whittier, CA.
