Donna Marie Mains was born June 9, 1955, in Conche, Newfoundland, Canada, to Raymond Sommer and Evangeline (Fitzgerald). She passed away June 28, 2016, in Orange, California, at the age of 61.
Donna spent her early years in Oscoda, Michigan. An Air Force brat, her fathers service took the family to Bermuda for a time, eventually settling in OFallen, Illinois. She went to school in OFallen and was very involved in extra-curricular activites at OFallen Township High School.
From a previous marriage, Donna was blessed with the joy of her lifeher daughter, Christelle. Donna loved and adored Christelle and devoted her life to her. Christelle remembers her mother as an incredible mom who was totally selfless. Her motherly love extended to Christelles friends and others as well.
Sports were another love of Donnas. She was a devoted fan of the St. Louis Cardinals, the Los Angeles Lakers, and the Texas Longhorns. Being able to attend Kobe Bryants last game was a huge thrill for her. She was very ill at the time, but she wouldn't let that stop her from being there. Cooking, eating out, and playing the slots were other pastimes she enjoyed.
Donna spent her career in accounting. She was sharp and meticulous and enjoyed working with
numbers. She was a beautiful, vibrant woman who had an infectious laugh and a big heart. Inspired by her father, Donna developed a great Donald Duck impressionsomething that would always bring a smile to others. She will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved her.
Survivors include her daughter, Christelle; mother, Evangeline Cavalli; father and step-mother, Raymond and Margie Sommer; brothers, Dan, Ron, and Duane Sommer; step-brother, Tom Cavalli; step-sister, Barbara Cavalli; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Viewing will take place from 10am Noon on Wednesday, July 6th, at White Emerson Mortuary, 13304 E. Philadelphia St., Whittier, CA. Mass will be celebrated at 1pm that day at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church, 900 W. La Habra Blvd., La Habra, CA. Please be a guest of the family at a Celebration of Life which will follow at the Summit House restaurant in Fullerton, CA. Friends may, if they wish, donate in Donnas memory to the American Cancer Society.
