Dolores Jean Pfile (née Ramirez) was born on April 7, 1929 in Oxnard, CA. After moving to the Los Angeles area, she graduated from Huntington Park High School in 1948, then moved to Stockton, CA. She graduated from San Joaquin General Hospital School of Nursing in 1951 and began working as a public heath RN in Stockton. In 1965, she moved to Whittier and worked in a variety of nursing roles, including at Presbyterian Intercommunity Hospital (PIH).
In 1967 Dolores met her future husband, Robert (Bob) Pfile in Whittier, and traveled that year to meet Bob in Colorado Springs, Co. where he was in the Army reserve. In December 1967 they were married in Colorado, lived there for a short time, and then returned to Whittier in mid-1969. In September, 1969 their son Robert was born.
After working as an RN at PIH until 1975, Dolores became a licensed vocational nursing instructor at Rio Hondo College. After teaching countless nursing students in the classroom and PIH clinics, she retired from Rio Hondo in 1991, and enjoyed her time with her husband and family. She especially loved shopping, dining and just being with her sister Mary Louise Kubasek. She became a grandmother in 2001 and enjoyed spending time with her two granddaughters. After a long bout with dementia, Dolores passed away peacefully on October 26, 2021.
Dolores was a member of the Third Order of Saint Francis (now the Secular Franciscan Order) - according to St. Francis, "A renewed life characterized by charity, forgiveness and compassion toward others." Certainly, she patterned her whole life on these three characteristics.
Dolores enjoyed music, dancing, going to the beach, and spending time with and raising children - all her nephews and her nieces, her son and her granddaughters. Most of all she loved to laugh, and alongside her sister, she always found the humor in things.
She was preceded in death by her brothers Charles, John and Herbert Ramirez, and her sister Mary Louise Kubasek. She is survived by her husband Bob Pfile, her sister Linda Whittock, her sister-in-law Eva Lynn McCracken, her son Robert, his wife Suruchi and their children, Sonali and Sandhya.
