David James Kirk

August 4, 1935 — November 11, 2014

David Dave James Kirk, 79, passed away in Whittier, California on Tuesday, November 11, 2014. Born in Los Angeles, California on August 4, 1935, he was born to his parents George & Genevieve (Wiemer) Kirk. Dave was married to Barbara Towers on September 10, 1955 and together they had four children, Steve, Richard, Mitchell and Janette. Dave will be deeply missed by his family, co-workers and friends.

When he was a young boy, his family moved to Whittier. He attended St. Marys Catholic School and went on to graduate from Cantwell Catholic High School in Montebello. During his college years he attended Fullerton Junior College, Loyola University and Whittier College. He also attended LA Trade Technical College where he received training to get his Contractors license.

Dave was a hard-working man and a passionate business owner. He started his own HVAC company, Dave Kirk Heating & Air Conditioning, which he owned and ran for over 30 years. His companys success was not simply just based on his technical skills, but more importantly, it was in the way he treated his employees and co-workers.

As a young father, he was very active with the Scouts, including Cub Scout Troop 734 and Boy Scout Troop 689. Some of the many experiences in scouting were hiking a 50 mile stretch of the historic John Muir Trail (rebuilding the trail as they went along) and building kayaks to paddle down the Colorado River, which was quite an adventure. He also enjoyed family camping vacations.

He loved travelling with his wife, Barbara, visiting Alaska, Canada, Mexico, Hawaii, England, France, Scotland, and Wales. He also loved photography, reading and playing pinochle every month with his friends of many years (some going back to grammar school). Dave had a love for life and this was never more apparent than when he was telling stories. His family could never be sure if his stories were true in their entirety, but it didnt matter when they saw the joy that Dave got in telling his infamous tales. Daves life was truly fulfilled through the experiences he shared with those he loved most.

Dave is survived by his wife, Barbara, his children, Steve, Richard, Mitchell & Janette, his grandchildren, Ryan, Michelle, Lauren, Kristi, Margherite and Harrison, and his great-grandchildren, Riley & Alyson, along with his siblings Thomas and Suzanne.
