Darrell Keith Lucas, known to his family and closest friends as Keith, was born February 18, 1954 in Los Angeles, California.
Darrell was raised in Los Angeles and graduated from Manual Arts High School. Shortly after high school he went on to work at the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company. Darrell later attended welding school where he obtained a certification. He eventually went on to perform contract work, primarily painting houses.
Darrell was an avid sports fan and loved just about all sports, but his favorites were football and basketball. He loved the Raiders and was proud to proclaim himself as a member of the Raider Nation. He enjoyed discussing tennis, basketball and football with his brothers-in-law. You could always count on a call during or after a Serena Williams match or a Lakers game.
Darrell loved music. The Commodores, the Isley Brothers and Earth Wind and Fire were among his favorites. His versatility led him to introduce his little sister Renee to the music of Peter Frampton and the Charlie Daniels Band, which is probably why she loves the electric guitar to this day.
Darrell was also very mechanically inclined. You could count on his help to fix just about anything.
Darrells best quality was his calm and gentle nature. His sister Stephanie calls him her gentle giant because of his big heart. He never stayed angry for long and didnt hold grudges. Darrell was loyal to his friends, sometimes to a fault. He was always well liked, especially by the older people in the neighborhood because he was respectful and courteous.
Darrell loved his family and was very close to his mother. He always called to check in on his sisters and would do anything in his power to help a friend or loved one.
Darrell endured the rapid progression of esophageal cancer for several months and lost his battle on October 23, 2015 in Whittier, California.
Darrell is survived by his mother, Emma Lucas; his sister, Stephanie G. Black and her husband Freddy Black of Park City, Illinois; his sister Renee Simon and her husband Marvin Simon of Whittier, California; three nephews, Pease Lucas and his wife Michawn Lucas, Lavell Black and Blair Simon; one niece, Tiesha Lucas; four great-nephews, Teshawn Black, Thailer Lucas, Trenton Lucas and Yasin Black; and host of other relatives and friends.
