Cruz 'Cruzie' Valdez was born October 11, 1916 in El Paso, Texas to Joseph and Cruz (Granillo) Valdez. She passed away Friday, February 3, 2012 in Long Beach, California.Cruzie spent her early years in El Paso, Texas, moving to Downey, California at the age of 16. She finished her education in Downey and spent the rest of her life there.A hard worker, Cruz spent several years with Douglas working as a riveter. She also worked as a clerk at JC Penney and did domestic work as well.In her spare time, Cruzie enjoyed doing puzzles, crocheting, playing cards and watching TV. She was also fond of traveling.Mrs. Valdez was a very strong woman--she took care of everyone. She was a very compassionate person and will be greatly missed by her family and friends.Cruzie is survived by her granddaughter, Natalie (Matt) Lozano; grandsons, Chuck (Sandra) and Eric Dominguez; son-in-law, Manuel Dominguez; great-granddaughters, Lissette Lozano and Marisa Dominguez; and great-grandsons, Owen Lozano and Anthony Dominguez.A viewing will begin at 9:00 am on Monday, February 13, 2012 at White Emerson Mortuary, 13304 E. Philadelphia St., Whittier, California. A service will immediately follow at 11:00 a.m., and interment will take place later at Calvary Cemetery in Los Angeles, California.
