Cecilio Louis "Don" Cedano

November 22, 1937 — April 6, 2017

Cecilio Louis Cedano was born November 22, 1937, in Chicago, Illinois, to Fred and Esther (Mercado) Cedano. He passed away on Thursday, April 6, 2017, in Whittier, California, at the age of 79.

Don, as he was affectionately known, grew up and went to school in Chicago. Shortly after graduation he went to work as a baker for Nabisco. He was a proud member of the Bakery, Confectionery, Tobacco Workers and Grain Millers International Union of America (BCTGM), an affiliate of the AFL-CIO CLC. In his late 20s/early 30s, Don proudly served as a Union Shop Steward for Local 300 in Chicago. He worked tirelessly as a leader, educator and role model and fought to protect the rights of his union brothers and sisters. He traveled the country representing Local 300 and organized and recruited union members. Don retired from Nabisco after 35 years.

On November 22, 1958, Dons 22nd birthday, he married the love of his life, Sue Ann Budge, in Chicago, Illinois. They made their home in Chicago and raised their daughters, Elizabeth and Carol. In August of 1999, Don and Sue Ann moved to Whittier, California to join their daughters and their families. Don later moved to Brea, California, following Sue Anns death in April of 2009.

Don will be remembered as a thoughtful, caring person who was a friend to everyone he knew. Family always came first. He was very proud of his children and grandchildren, and he loved them very much. He enjoyed engaging in conversation, telling stories or sharing facts from his vast wealth of knowledge. A natural athlete, Don was always active. He was a gymnast as a young man and found pleasure schooling young men in racquetball when he was older. He also enjoyed reading, music, film photography, and, of course, gambling! Though he would go to the casinos, he especially liked betting on horses at the track.

Don is survived by his daughters, Dr. Elizabeth Blanco and Carol Styx; 9 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and 3 great-great grandchildren. His wife, Sue Ann, and sons-in-law, Jack Blanco and Dean Styx, preceded him in death.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30am on Monday, April 17, 2017, at St. Bruno Church, 15740 Citrustree Rd., Whittier, California, with interment following at Olive Lawn Memorial Park, 13926 La Mirada Blvd., La Mirada, California.
