Cathryn Ann Edmunds

Cathryn Ann Edmunds was born August 8, 1918, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, to Maurice and Agnes (Curly) Cavanaugh. She passed away on Monday, September 16, 2013, in Whittier, California, at the age of 95.



Cathryn grew up and went to school in the Pittsburgh area of Pennsylvania. She graduated from St. Raphael High School in Pittsburgh in 1935. Following High School, Cathryn went to work as a postal clerk for the US Postal Service.



In 1944, Cathryn married Vernon Edmunds in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. They initially made their home in Forest Hills, Pennsylvania, a suburb of Pittsburgh. While there, they welcomed their first four children into their home. Vernon, who also worked for the US Postal Service, was transferred to Whittier, California, in 1958. Two more children joined the family in Whittier, and it remained as Cathryn's home until the time of her death.



A devout Irish Catholic, Cathryn was a faithful parishioner at St. Mary of the Assumption Church in Whittier since 1958. While she liked to vacation and play the penny slots in Vegas, nothing brought Cathryn more joy than her children and grandchildren. She absolutely loved spending time with them above all. Her extended family was also extremely important to her.



Cathryn was a very funny person. She believed that the secret to success is a close-knit family. She achieved that success, as all of her children share a close and loving relationship, and everyone looks out for each other. Cathryn will be greatly missed!



She is survived by her six children, Timothy (Gloria) Edmunds, LaVerne Edmunds, Maureen (Larry) Ehlers, Bonnie Edmunds, Patricia (Bob) Stiens, and Terrance (Cindy) Edmunds; seven grandchildren; and 3 great-grandchildren. Her husband, Vernon, preceded her in death in 1966.



A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, September 19, 2013, at White Emerson Mortuary, 13304 E. Philadelphia St., Whittier, CA 90601.
