Catalina Gutierrez Sanchez

Catalina Gutierrez Sanchez was born November 25, 1905 in Guadalajara, Mexico to Hermilo and Martha Gutierrez. She passed away Wednesday, June 1, 2011 in La Habra, California at the age of 105.Catalina grew up and went to school in Mexico. At the age of 19, she married Toribio Sanchez. Shortly thereafter they made their way to California where they raised their 11 children.Much of Catalina's time was spent reading, doing puzzles and sewing. She especially enjoyed going on walks. For relaxation, Catalina enjoyed her Spanish novellas, going to the movies, and eating out. Of course, don't forget the margaritas!Catalina will be remembered as a modest woman with an opinion. If she didn't like something, you knew it!Catalina is survived by four daughters, Felicia Villalpando, Paula Armas, Christina Melendez and Rebecca Sanchez; two sons, Jesse and Johnny Sanchez; 45 grandchildren; and 26 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Toribio Sanchez; three daughters, Cesaria Hernandez, Carmen Benkiel and Aurelia Medrano; and sons, Peter and Antonio Sanchez.A viewing will take place from 1:30 - 4 pm on Sunday, June 5th at White Emerson Mortuary, 13304 Philadelphia St., Whittier. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:30 am the following morning, June 6th at St. Mary of the Assumption Church, 7215 S. Newlin Ave., Whittier. Burial will follow at Rose Hills Memorial Park in Whittier.
