Catalina "Cathy" Ruiz was called home on October 6th at the age of 86. She was born in Zacatecas, Mexico and migrated to the United States in her early 20's. She came determined to make a better life for herself, and to help her family back in Mexico. Upon arriving to the US, she worked alongside her sister as a domestic housekeeper. She held that job for some time, and later moved on to work in the garment district as a seamstress. Determined to not stay in that profession, Cathy made the effort to study and learn the English language, even though in her native Mexico she completed her schooling only through elementary. With that determination she had, she mastered the English language and later transitioned from the garment district to working as a clerk with/for the County of Los Angeles. From where she ultimately retired.
Cathy was an avid cook, her Specialties included Menudo, Chile Colorado, her famous Potato Soup as well as her Tamales. Her tamales where her Christmas tradition, throughout the years she shared that recipe but more importantly her time with her extended family. It was a time to gather and enjoy long talks and share stories...
Cathy was a very loving, devoted and proud mother and grandmother. She shared a lot of love with her family and was loved very much by them. She will always be remembered for her selflessness, sense of humor, her joyous laugh and her love of family. . She will be dearly missed more than words can express.
She was preceded in her death by her Son's Joseph "Tony" and Gustavo "Gus". Also by her Parents Antonio and Hilaria as well as by her Sisters; Nelly and Julia
Cathy is survived by her husband of 52 years, Luis Ruiz, 3 Sons; Henry, Raymond and Louie by her Grandchildren; Henry Jr. Eric, Herendida, Tony, Willie, Catalina "Nene", Raymond Jr, James, Samantha and Zoey and 7 Great Grand Children. She is also survived by her Siblings, Samuel, Elizeo, Rafael, Pete, Ester, Sara and Beatriz as well as a very large extended family of Nieces and Nephews including grand and great grand nieces and nephews.
