Beverly Jean Whittaker peacefully ascended into heaven on Friday, March 22, 2013, at Whittier Presbyterian Hospital at age 90. A resident of Whittier for more than sixty years, Beverly was born October 16, 1922, in Fresno, CA, moving to Los Angeles as a young girl. She graduated from Franklin High School in 1941 and married Robert John Whittaker on November 8, 1941, at St. Ignacious Church in Highland Park, CA.
Although she worked outside the home on occasion, her family and home were her highest priorities. She was the glue holding together today's generations of Whittakers. She loved to dance, particularly the Lindy and the Balboa, and at special family gatherings, she would delight everyone by dancing the Irish Jig! Her favorite place was with her family on the beach having a glass of wine on a warm sunset evening.
Beverly is survived by her husband of more than 71 years, Bob; three children: William (Deborah) Whittaker, R. Michael (Veronica) Whittaker, and Ann La Porte; seven grandchildren: Michael (Kim) Whittaker, Robyn Whittaker, John (Jaime) Whittaker, Jennifer (Greg) Vickrey, Kelli Whittaker, Christopher La Porte, and Patrick La Porte; and four great grandchildren: Eden Whittaker, Ryan Whittaker, Erin Whittaker, and Mackenzie Vickrey. Also left to mourn her loss are the many cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family, and numerous friends who were always considered family by Beverly. She also had a special place in her heart for two exchange students that became an important part of the Whittaker family: Connie (Keith) Ramirez Hoffman , and Hiroshi (Sachiyo) Hoshino.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Eruth Marie (Armstrong) Brevig and Joseph Leo Brevig, and her dear sister Edna Mae (Brevig) Carlson.
A private interment is planned at Queen of Heaven Cemetery. A celebration of life is to be held on April 27, 2013, at 10 A.M, at Whittier Area Community Church, 8100 Colima Road, Whittier, CA. In lieu of flowers, a donation to children's cancer charities would be a beautiful remembrance of Beverly's life.
