Betty Mary van Capelle

September 3, 1938 — November 29, 2016

Betty Mary van Capelle, age 78, passed away on Tuesday, November 29, 2016, in La Habra, California with her daughter by her side. She was born September 3, 1938, in Jakarta, Indonesia to Anton and Maria (Heijermans) Weise. She moved at an early age to the Netherlands and attended school in Den Haag. She married Carol Harry van Capelle on October 28, 1959, and later that year boarded a ship to the United States of America where they created their first home in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. Betty and Carol then moved to California where they resided in Whittier & Pico Rivera.

Betty formed an extended family in the Dutch-Indonesian community and in particular with the entire Sanders Family of Whittier. Her many friendships in the community created a familiar foundation as she became oriented to America. She lived life to the fullest through simple pleasures, communing with friends, sewing, bowling and had the uncanny ability to always surround herself with laughter and food. Betty devoted her life to supporting her family, her colleagues at Montgomery Ward and made many friends along the way.

Betty is survived by her husband, Carol; son & daughter, Edwin (Nicole) and Lisa (Bob Lynch); brother, Richard Weise; six grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and many nieces and nephews. Preceding her passing were her father, mother, sister, and brother.

The family will hold a small service for family, friends, neighbors, and all whose lives Betty touched. Folks are invited to join the family at 12742 Oxford Drive, La Mirada, CA 90638 from 4:30pm - 7 pm on Sunday, December 4, 2016, to reminisce and remember.
