Barbara Jane Margitan was born on April 27, 1926 to Joseph H. and Lena Sadler Hutton in Detroit, Michigan.
On April 1, 1942 Barbara met a young service man named Earl Margitan. Earl left for the service the following day after their meeting, however, the two corresponded by mail while he served as a sergeant in the U.S. Army. On August 4, 1945, a week after he came home on leave from Europe, Earl and Barbara were married. While the two were on their honeymoon World War II ended and Earl was released from the need to return to the European theatre.
In 1959, Barbara, Earl and their four children moved to California and in 1961 they settled in Whittier. Barbara had many interests. She was an avid reader, she enjoyed raising her children and taking care of her family and her many pets. Professionally she worked as an office clerk for the State of California and retired from this position. Finally, she delighted in talking about and sharing pictures of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Barbara was a faithful member of Whittier Hills Baptist Church. She loved working in the church baby nursery and enjoyed watching those children as they grew up. She also had many friends from her church and community who she was a witness to.
On January 21, 2015 at the age of 88, Barbara went home to be with the Lord and was reunited with her husband Earl and son Bruce who had preceded her in death. She leaves behind three children, Robert Margitan, Bonnie (Dave) Cochran, Janet (Gary) Bowman, 5 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
