Arthur Nathaniel Harwood, Jr., was born August 28, 1933, in Worcester, Massachusetts, to Arthur Sr. and Dorothy (Franzen) Harwood. He passed away Thursday, February 2, 2017, in Fullerton, California, at the age of 83.
Art grew up and began his education in Massachusetts. His family moved to California when he was a teenager, and he graduated from Whittier High School. On June 6, 1954, Art married his high school sweetheart, Patricia (Pat) Amsbury, in Whittier, California. They made their home in Whittier until 1957 when they moved to La Habra, California. They were blessed with two sons, Steve and Scott.
Professionally, Art worked as VP of Purchasing for Alex Brands, Inc., a Mexican food distributor. He enjoyed being outdoors and liked golf, camping, fishing and hikingboth in the mountains and in the desert. Art also enjoyed RVing with his wife and family. The Boy Scouts of America played a large role in Arts life. A life-long scouter of 74 years, he was still active as a District Trainer for the Rio Hondo District at the time of his death. Art was also involved with the Elks Lodge of La Habra.
Art was a loving parent who instilled great values in his sons. He had a great sense of humor and will be remembered as a hard-working, man of integrity who was loyal and true to his word.
Surviving Art are his sons, Steve and Scott (Janine) Harwood; and his grandsons, Kevin and Bryan Harwood. He was preceded in death by his dear wife, Patricia, in 2007.
A memorial service will be held at 2pm on Wednesday, February 8, 2017, at White Emerson Mortuary, 13304 Philadelphia St., Whittier, California.
In lieu of flowers a donation in Arts name may be made to the Boys Scouts Rio Hondo District or the La Habra Elks Lodge.
