Antonio Escalera Chacon was born in Mexico on January 29, 1922, to Cenobio and Nicolasa (Escalera) Chacon. He passed away on November 16, 2012 in Whittier, California.
Mr. Chacon grew up and went to school in Guanajuato, Mexico. He married Maria Carrillo Castillo in 1947, and as a young couple they moved to Mexico City. In 1961, he moved his family from Mexico City to Tijuana, Mexico. Then the family immigrated to the United States in 1963. They made their home in Norwalk, California until moving to La Habra, California during the past year.
As a teenager and young man, Antonio volunteered and served in the Mexican military during World War II, and later went on to work as a Private Investigator. Antonio's trust and friendly demeanor helped develop a very successful coffee distribution business in Mexico City. Antonio's deep loyalty and commitment to family caused him to leave behind many wonderful friends and successful businesses and move with his wife and children to the US. Upon arriving in the US, he picked up the machinist trade for a number of years. As an independent businessman and a craftsman at heart, Antonio later devoted his professional career to creating his own leather products and selling them at swap meets, a.k.a., Tony's Leather Goods.
