Maria Alice Felix, affectionately known as “Honey” was born daughter to Philip and Mary Flores Tovar, the eldest of eight children, on November 23rd, 1929. She entered eternal life on January 29th, 2023, shortly after celebrating her 93rd birthday.
Honey and Cruz were married in 1950 at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Los Angeles, and happily raised their four children amongst the orange groves in Hacienda Heights, Ca. She was a loving mother, wife, daughter, aunt, sister, grandmother and great grandmother. Greatly loved by all those who knew her, Honey enjoyed celebrating birthdays and holidays with her family. She warmly recalled how She loved to drive her mother Mary anywhere she wanted to go and would often say, “We were mother and daughter, but Mom was my best friend”. She was a beautiful, generous, gracious and compassionate woman who would always bless you with holy water and the sign of the cross. She adored spending time at home with her grand and great grandchildren and admired her sweet classic pink roses just outside her bedroom window. She was a woman of deep faith and had a great love for “Our Blessed Mother”.
As parishioner for 56 years, Alice served St. John Vianney Catholic Parish as a Special Minister of the Holy Eucharist. Entrusting her to provide Communion to the sick and the homebound. She made many friends, devoted her time to the Church and enjoyed helping people within the community. With such a kind, giving and loving heart, our mother “Honey” was our angel, and she will be greatly missed.
Alice “Honey” was predeceased by her beloved husband Cruz L. Felix and son Arthur C. Felix, her loving parents Philip and Mary Tovar, grandparents Isabel and Andrea Flores, her adoring sisters Gloria J. Almaraz and Isabel T. Candelaria and brothers Albert M. Tovar, David Tovar and Rudy Tovar. She is survived by her three children: Maryellen Zuniga, Alice A. Caballero, and Anna L. Felix. Her brother and sister, Fernando (Fran) Tovar and Rita McMichael. Her five grandchildren: April (Ethan) Johnson, Natalie (Dennis) Rayborn, Alenna Felix Rettig, Michael (George) Zuniga, and Arthur Michael Felix Jr. Her nine great grandchildren: Oliver Nathaniel Phillips, Nicholaus Austin Phillips, Jessica Nicole Rodriguez, Ashley Aurora Bufton, Steffi Lisette Bufton, Dakota Cruz Rettig, Skylar Jude Felix, Sawyer Celestino Rettig, and Scarlett Gia Bufton, along with her extended family of cousins, nieces, nephews and in-laws.
A private Family Visitation will be held at 4:00pm to 4:30pm Wednesday, February 22, 2023, at White Emerson Mortuary 13304 Philadelphia Street in Whittier, Ca. and concluding with a Recitation of the Holy Rosary beginning at 4:30pm until 7:00pm. A funeral Mass service will be held at 9:30am on Thursday, February 23, 2023, at St. John Vianney Catholic Church 1345 Turnbull Canyon Road in Hacienda Heights, Ca., followed by interment at Resurrection Catholic Cemetery 966 North Potrero Grande Drive in Montebello, Ca.
