Alejandro Kozycz, age 80, passed from this world into eternity on April 3, 2021. On April 5, 2021, Alejandro was joined in the arms of Jesus by his beloved eldest sister Maria Pleskacz.
Alejandro was born to the late Andrey and Sofia Kozycz on March 22, 1941 in Colonia Fram, Paraguay. His parents who had immigrated to Paraguay several years earlier had escaped the difficult environment in Belarus which at that time was under Polish rule. Throughout his younger years Alejandro attended a local school while helping his family with their daily challenges of working on the family farm.
In the 60's, following in the footsteps of elder siblings, Alejandro arrived in the United States and settled in Los Angeles, California where he felt so blessed to have the opportunity to immigrate to America where he eventually became a US citizen. Due to limited methods of communication out of Paraguay, Alejandro flew into LAX with his brother's address and a $20 bill in his pocket; this was just enough to cover his taxi fare to Basilio's house. He resided there until he was able to be on his own. Not a stranger to hard times, he often labored day and night establishing the roots of his future success at building his own American dream. Joined by his siblings and other immigrant families, Alex helped establish a Slavic Church in East Los Angeles and subsequently a church building was purchased in Montebello. He attended every service possible and continued to be involved in welcoming and settling many immigrants of Slavic descent, first from Paraguay, Argentina and Brazil and later from Ukraine, Belarus and Russia. In 2007 the family moved across the country to North Carolina where Alex and Maria eventually settled in the Weddington area. From the onset, they started attending Central Church, became members and were part of the Primetimers fellowship which they thoroughly enjoyed. In the Charlotte area, Alex was so blessed to be reunited with many friends that he grew up with back in Paraguay who had also moved to the area, many via New Jersey.
Alejandro is survived by his beloved wife of 55 years Maria Kozycz, his two children Andrew Kozycz and Rose Michaels and her husband Andrew, his brothers Basilio Kozycz and his wife Bala, Juan Kozycz and his wife Emilia, his sisters Nina Korszyk, Vera Loszko, and her husband Roman and his only grandson, Alexander Michaels; whom he loved very much as well as numerous nieces, nephews and their families. All continued to be an important part of Alex's life.
On May 3, 2021 Alex will be laid to rest in a family plot in Rose Hills Memorial Park in Whitter, CA along with his sister Maria Pleskacz and adjacent to their mother Sofia Kozycz.
1 Thessalonians 4:13- 14
" But we do not want you to be uninformed, brothers, about those who are asleep, that you may not grieve as others do who have no hope. For since we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so, through Jesus, God will bring with him those who have fallen asleep."
